Antique Letterpress Block, Loaf of Bread, Copper Print Block, Typesetting Block, Junk Journal Tools, Craft Supplies, (C954)

This is a huge antique letterpress block. It has a decorative oval with a loaf of bread. The initials on the bread are I. T. There is also a Registered Mark on the bread.

The plate is nailed to a large block of hard wood. The metal has been drilled in certain spots and there are marks that appear made from a router type tool. This may be original to the piece. I’ve seen many similar blocks with marks like this.

I do not know what type of wood, nor what type of metal. The metal is a coppery bronze color. The block is quite heavy.

The wood is blackened on the side facing the image. On the back is some pencil writing. It looks like inventory numbers and a name Thomas Zimmerman.

I cannot find info on what companies T.I. might be. Thomas English Muffins seems to be the only search result.

Thomas Zimmerman could possibly be Thomas Cadwallader Zimmerman (1838-1914) He worked for various papers : a printer at Lebanon Courier, a Printer at Philadelphia Inquirer and Editor at Reading Times

All of this aside, it makes a unique addition to a letterpress collection or display.
