This is a print depicting "Charlotte Corday and Marat," created by Jules Aviat and issued as a typogravure, in 1892.
The artwork depicts the aftermath of the assassination of Jean-Paul Marat by Charlotte Corday during the French Revolution.

The overall tone is dramatic, reflecting the significant historical moment and the intense emotions surrounding the assassination.

Historical Context: The assassination of Marat by Corday on July 13, 1793, was a pivotal event during the French Revolution, with Marat, a radical Jacobin, being killed by Corday, a Girondin sympathizer.

Also included is the tissue paper covering with a brief description of the scene.

This is an original,  not a reproduction. It came from a destroyed 1st edition book published in 1892 by Selmar Hess called Character Sketches of Romance Fiction and Drama. There is some damage, aging to the bound side of the print. All prints are either wood engravings, etchings, photogravure, or typogravure.
