****This is an antique engraving titled "ROSINA AND COUNT ALMAVIVA" by Ferdinand Keller, published in 1892. It is an illustration from Beaumarchais's play, "The Barber of Seville," which is also the basis for Rossini's famous opera of the same name. 
The image depicts a scene featuring Rosina and Count Almaviva, two central characters from the story. 
Rosina, a young woman, is shown prominently in the foreground, elegantly dressed in a long, flowing gown, actively engaging with a book or notes on a desk or small piano.
Count Almaviva, likely in one of his disguises (as he attempts to woo Rosina while hiding his true identity), is seen leaning over the desk near Rosina, seemingly in a clandestine or intimate moment.
The background features other figures, suggesting the presence of additional characters from the narrative, possibly observing or participating in the scene.
A black dog is visible in the foreground, adding a touch of domestic detail to the composition.
The overall aesthetic reflects the Victorian era, consistent with its 1892 publication date, and captures a dramatic or romantic moment from the popular play and opera.
Also included is the tissue paper covering with a brief description of the scene.
This is an original,  not a reproduction. It came from a destroyed 1st edition book published in 1892 by Selmar Hess called Character Sketches of Romance Fiction and Drama. There is some damage, aging to the bound side of the print. All prints are either wood engravings, etchings, photogravure, or typogravure.
