This antique engraving titled Circe and Her Swine by Briton Riviere, depicts a scene from Homer's epic Odyssey.

The image portrays the mythical sorceress Circe seated in a seemingly serene, pastoral setting, surrounded by several pigs.  The enchantress Circe, dressed in a white gown, is shown interacting with the animals. A few of the pigs are close to her, some looking up towards her, while others are resting nearby. The backdrop includes subtle architectural elements and draped foliage, adding a classical richness to the scene. The artwork illustrates the moment when Circe transforms Odysseus's men into swine. In the myth, Odysseus, with help from the god Hermes, resists her magic and forces her to restore his men to their human form. The print captures the quiet intensity of this moment of transformation.

Also included is the tissue paper covering with a brief description of the scene.

This is an original,  not a reproduction. It came from a destroyed 1st edition book published in 1892 by Selmar Hess called Character Sketches of Romance Fiction and Drama. There is some damage, aging to the bound side of the print. All prints are either wood engravings, etchings, photogravure, or typogravure.
