Antique Print, Lancelot and Elaine, Medieval Scene, Knight in Armor, King Arthur (AR-A397)

This print depicts a scene titled "Lancelot and Elaine." It shows a man in a dark tunic and a woman in a white dress, from the Arthurian legends. The setting is a garden with a stone staircase and a dog resting nearby. The artwork is a black and white engraving, from the 19th century, and it is part of a bound collection of romantic and mythological character artwork. The print is accompanied by a thin paper guard sheet with letterpress type describing the artist and the origin of the subject.
The original painting, "The Riven Shield", was done by Philip Richard Morris. The engraving was done by William Greatbach. The scene is likely an incident from a love story. The story of Lancelot and Elaine is a part of the Arthurian romance, and Alfred Tennyson published a ballad about the legendary figure of Elaine in 1832.

Condition - There is water damage as show in the photos.

This is an original,  not a reproduction. It came from a destroyed 1st edition book published in 1892 by Selmar Hess called Character Sketches of Romance Fiction and Drama. There is some damage, aging to the bound side of the print. All prints are either wood engravings, etchings, photogravure, or typogravure.
