***Sun, Moon, STARS, Mythology, Religion, Outer space, Aliens, Constellations are some of the fascinating things in The Celestial Skies.***

This print depicts "Hero and Leander," as painted by Ferdinand Keller, created in 1875. This piece illustrates the tragic Greek myth of Hero, a priestess of Aphrodite, and Leander, a young man from Abydos.
The painting captures a dramatic moment from the myth:
Hero is depicted on a rocky shore, likely near her tower in Sestos, where she would light a lamp to guide Leander across the Hellespont. Her posture suggests despair and grief as she looks out at the turbulent sea.
Leander is shown in the water below, tragically drowned after losing his way during a storm when Hero's guiding light was extinguished.
Keller's work, influenced by artists like Böcklin, often explored themes from ancient mythology, and "Hero and Leander" is considered one of his masterpieces, capturing the emotional intensity of the legendary love story.

Artist is Ferdinand Keller
Engraver is M. Weber

Also included is the tissue paper covering with a brief description of the scene.
