This print depicts a scene from Washington Irving's The Pride of the Village.

A man is shown from the back, seated at a desk, seemingly engaged in writing or reading. Two women are seated opposite him, facing towards the right side of the image, appearing to be in conversation or contemplation.

The scene is set indoors. The room has a rustic or traditional feel, suggested by the wooden furniture and the overall ambiance.

A spinning wheel is visible between the man and the women, adding to the domestic and historical context of the scene. The women are dressed in period attire, consistent with the era of Washington Irving's work.

Also included is the tissue paper covering with a brief description of the scene.

This is an original,  not a reproduction. It came from a destroyed 1st edition book published in 1892 by Selmar Hess called Character Sketches of Romance Fiction and Drama. There is some damage, aging to the bound side of the print. All prints are either wood engravings, etchings, photogravure, or typogravure.

Approx Size - 11.5"x 9"

Great for framing, assemblage, collage art, scrapbooking, college or school reports, research
