Victorian Literary Engraving – Steenie Steenson & Redgauntlet (AR-A468)

A dramatic 19th-century engraving illustrating a pivotal scene from Sir Walter Scott’s Redgauntlet. The image captures Steenie Steenson amid a riotous hall of revelers, confronted by the imposing figure of Sir Robert Redgauntlet—an encounter that blurs the line between memory, guilt, and the supernatural.

Illustrated by W. B. Hole and engraved by Thomas Brown, this richly detailed plate embodies the theatrical storytelling of Victorian book illustration. Darkly humorous, slightly ominous, and brimming with narrative energy, it makes a striking piece for lovers of gothic literature, Scottish history, and classic ghost stories.

Unframed. Light age toning consistent with period. A fantastic stand-alone display piece or addition to a literary ephemera collection.

Also included is the tissue paper covering with a brief description of the scene.

This is an original,  not a reproduction. It came from a destroyed 1st edition book published in 1892 by Selmar Hess called Character Sketches of Romance Fiction and Drama. There is some damage, aging to the bound side of the print. All prints are either wood engravings, etchings, photogravure, or typogravure.

Approx Size - 11.5"x 9"

Great for framing, assemblage, collage art, scrapbooking, college or school reports, research, home decor
