Vintage 1970s, Seashell Placemat, Cowrie Shell Trivet, Coaster, Hot Plate (DE-A158)
 
This 1970s placemat is made from Cowrie shells. The old price tag is even left behind.
I’ve used it as a decorative accent on my coffee table for a time. It could used as a trivet to protect a table from a hot pot as well.

 Approximately  9” to 9.5” diameter 
Because they are handmade, they are not perfectly symmetrical. they are beautiful.
One has a loose shell and one has a yellower shell.
