Vintage 50s Skirt, 50s Circle Skirt, Tropical Island, Hawaiian, OOAK, Pinup Skirt, South Pacific, Novelty Cotton Skirt, Handmade, S (C344)
This amazing skirt is from the 50s. This would be great for your Tropical Vacation. Or wear it to bring your mind closer to the islands.
I rescued it from a trunk in an attic recently. It belonged to my Grandmother who was an amazing amateur seamstress.
Colors are a wonderful bold print of off white with a subtle mustard yellow wave ripple detail. The print features tropical island people on boats, under cabanas talking and gathering bananas, flowers and coconuts. I would love to get lost in this scene depicted on the fabric. The colors turquoise, pink, brown and yellow are a unique combination not common today.
The full skirt is Pleated at top to add more fullness. I assume if you added petticoats or crinoline it would flare out more.. The sturdy metal zipper opening is along the back. There is 1 button above the zipper and belt loops.
I've seen this print before on another skirt of the era. I don't know if this one is one that my grandmother made or purchased. The cut was a little different on the other skirt and there is no makers tag.
Condition- Excellent- I cannot find any major flaws with the exception of some metal hanger rust spots at the waistband. Those can be easily hidden behind a belt thankfully. There is one small black spot the size of a poppy seed.
Size - This is Handmade so no Size Tag - I would guess no bigger than 4 or XS or S. The dress form in the picture is a 6 and it was unable to button at top.
